About the Thomas H. Peters Memorial Lecture

The Thomas H. Peters Memorial Fund was established at Berkeley in 1956 through gifts from his family and friends. Dr. Peters was not an alumnus of our school, but rather studied optometry at night at the California College of Optometry in San Francisco. He owned a private practice in Oakland, served two terms as COA President, and taught continuing night courses for optometrists. Perhaps his greatest achievement for Berkeley Optometry was his negotiation with university administration that laid the foundation for the establishment of the school. His ten-year effort culminated in the 1948 dedication of what is now Minor Hall.
